Finally a NZ budget book

I am planning a trip to New Zealand and have been absorbing as much information as possible before I go. I have seen several guide books and this is the first and only one I have seen that is set up for a budget traveler. Most of the guides list their $ (supposedly budget) meals at less than $30, this book has it's cheapest listed as under $7 and the expensive stuff listed over $25. Not everyone who travels makes $100,000+ a year :)
It also has heaps of extra information about traveling to NZ and travel in general. Information on passports, visas, safety, health, history, etc. All of the authors are people who have traveled to New Zealand, rather than living there, so you get an angle from the traveler's perspective more than from the usual travel writer's perspective.
It has the same kind of break down that most books have by city, attractions, restaurants and housing. It also has suggestions on other ways to experience the country such as farmstays, volunteer work,
education, and different travel styles.
A very good travel book, and easy to read rather than tedious. I don't feel like I am being sold anything while reading, it's more like having a friend tell me about their experiences and giving me travel advice, which is just what I need!

I did use it through out my entire trip, but Lonely Planet's New Zealand book is better.
But this will get the job done.

Fly Fishing History at its Best

Little has been written about Art Flick, author of Streamside Guide to Naturals and their Imitations until now. His life in the Catskills as innkeeper, guide,conservationist and fly designer is a fascinating story. I received this engaging book two days before Christmas and could not put it down, even to the point of ignoring the grandchildren part of Christmas Day. Roger Keckeissen's remembrance of Flick's life is a tribute to the passions of fly fishing and caring for rivers. Flick was a man ahead of the time who was able to protect the Schoharie River because he spoke simply, clearly and with conviction. There is still much to be learned from Art Flick.

A fitting tribute to one of America's best.

I just finished reading this book. I couldn't put it down. I am an avid fly fisherman, fly tier and I own a large collection of flyfishing books. This one is a jewel. I would include it in the best five flyfishing books that I own. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys the sport. It is a really well written biography by any standard.

A wonderfully written biography of a fascinating man, Art Flick

I could not put down this wonderfully written look back at a bygone era in the Catskills and at Art Flick, a brilliant and kindhearted woodsman and fly fisher and self-taught entomologist who humbly influenced and gently touched the sport of American fly fishing as only a small handful of other anglers and authors have ... I knew the author and traveled with him when he relocated from California to the Henry's Fork region in 1979, and Roger was truly a brilliant, multi-talented and well-read Renaissance man as well as the best fly fisherman I've ever known, hands down ... I remember him and his dog Skookum fondly ... this is a must-read book for anyone interested in American fly fishing history in general and in the influence that the Catskills region and its most famous inhabitant has had on American fly fishing history.

A good supplement to classroom and textbook resources

My kid's high school no longer issues take-home textbooks; the physical books stay in class, and students have access to an online version. It's pretty frustrating to use an online textbook for homework or studying, and classroom notes only go so far. This isn't as complete as a real textbook and doesn't cover things as comprehensively as a beginner might need, but it's a decent addendum to other learning resources.

This book handled all 3 of my concerns: first, it gives my kid an opportunity to see chemistry concepts and problems explained in a different way than what he got in school; second, it's an easy-to use reference for homework; and last, it serves as a refresher for me (his reluctant tutor who learned Chemistry many years ago). I've used other "Dummies" books in the past, and found them all decent in covering their subjects, same for this edition.

Entering a Chemistry class which is a requirement for my RN degree worried me. I was worried that because I had not taken a chemistry course in high school my grades would be hindered. This prompted me to check Amazon in search of a solution. I decided to purchase Chemistry for Dummies. It is amazing how just skimming through this book familiarized me enough in Chemistry lingo to understand my class. I highly recommend, "Chemistry for Dummies". vaf

Everyone alive should read this book!

Dr. Jennings is brilliant! I have read many self help books and this one is the real deal. It encompasses many aspects and makes total sense as to why we have been running in circles in many areas of our lives. Christians will appreciate and be healed by this book and non-believers in Christ will also see our creator in everything Dr. Jennings brings to light. I cannot express enough gratitude to Dr. Jennings for his dedication to write this book and I look forward to his next book coming out soon. If you are 'stumped' in 'any' area of life...this book will most likely help you. Mine was depression from/since childhood and marital and parental discord. In the first 7 chapters I had answers that I could actually apply and get better results with, no kidding!
Also-If you are in Chattanooga, TN and can go see Dr. Jennings for professional help...its worth every dime...I did...he is a very gracious and wise doctor.

A Life Changing Book: Get Free!

I have trully enjoyed this book, I have gained much understanding from this book about how our mind works. I could relate to a number of stories in the book. He does a great job of explaining the laws of liberty, love and how when they are violated how they affect our lives. I had been in an abusive marriage, and when he related how the law of liberty leads to rebellion, I related. But if it is not resolved that person can become a shadow person of the controller. How true. The chapter on forgiveness will help anyone get rid of misconceptions on forgiveness - like forgiving validates what the person did, NOT, that a person has to say they are sorry before you forgive them, NO, forgiving helps you, they need to repent. This book can help anyone.
I have had the same message from the Lord for the last three years, He wants us free from our junk, all the misconceptions about Him and the lies that we believe that are holding us captive. This is just another book He has led me to to get more understanding and more freedom.

Great Guide to Discovering a Healing Faith!

This is an AMAZING book about mental health and how to discover a healing faith in God. Dr. Jennings is not just an eminent psychiatrist, he is a truly gifted Christian counselor - which is a rare thing! This book takes the reader on a loving journey toward a greater understanding of both mental health and our Creator. It is so enlightening and well-written that I have purchased extra copies to lend or just give away when appropriate. Jennings is a wonderful, inspiring writer. He cares so much about helping others. I usually have trouble finishing books I start to read, but I have read this one several times over the past few years because there is so much love within it. I keep it nearby to read parts of it whenever I want to read something uplifting that will draw me closer to God. I highly recommend. It could change your life.

Man's attempts to learn about aspects of the human body and its functions by observation and study of animals are to be found throughout history, especially at times and in cultures where the human body was considered sacrosanct, even after death. This book describes the origins and later development, especially in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, of comparative medicine and its interrelationship with medicine and veterinary medicine and the efforts of its practitioners to understand and control outbreaks of infectious, epidemic diseases in humans and in domestic animals. In the nineteenth century their efforts and increasing professionalism led to the creation of specialised institutes devoted to the study of comparative medicine. Paradoxically the first such institute, the Brown Institution, opened in London in 1871, despite the fact that the study of this branch of medicine in Britain had always lagged behind that in France and Germany. The book discusses the rise and fall of this centre and describes how it was soon overtaken in importance by the great institutes in Paris and Berlin and then, from the turn of the century, by American institutes, funded by private fortunes. This book sheds much new light on the medical and veterinary history of this period and will provide a new perspective on the history of bacteriology.

Be forewarned. I am a professional reader and have used this deck for years. My decks wear out often and I have to replace them. I just opened a new deck (april 2016) and along with the new low price the quality is also low and awful. The cards are no longer glossy and much thinner than thy have ever been before. I am so upset. I don't know where I will be able to find the previous edition with more durable and glossier cards :(

The artwork on this deck is dated but classic. I prefer the Universal Waite deck which has artwork that has been cleaned up, but is essentially the same. For those who are purists though this is the original that started the Tarot craze and on which countless other decks are based. Not dark at all like the Toth deck and easy to read.
